Medication Instructions for Skin Testing

Please follow these directions when getting ready for this test. All antihistamines may affect the results of skin testing and therefore need to be stopped before the testing is done. If the antihistamines are not stopped as recommended, testing may be delayed and another visit scheduled for the skin testing.

Please STOP taking all of the following medications 3 days prior to test:

  • All Antihistamines (Including Nasal Antihistamines and Allergy Eye Drops)
  • Multi-symptom Cold Relief Medications

Please CONTINUE taking all of the following medications:

  • All Inhaled Asthma Medication
  • Oral Asthma Medications
  • Over-The-Counter Nasal and Oral Decongestants (Non-Antihistamine)
  • Proton Pump Inhibitors for Acid Reflux
  • Medication taken for non-allergy problems (e.g., high blood pressure, cholesterol, mood problems, thyroid issues, birth control, etc.) should be continued normally
