Medication Instructions for Skin Testing

Please follow these directions when getting ready for this test. All antihistamines may affect the results of skin testing and therefore need to be stopped before the testing is done. If the antihistamines are not stopped as recommended, testing may be delayed and another visit scheduled for the skin testing.

Please STOP taking all of the following medications 3 days prior to test:

  • All Antihistamines (Including Nasal Antihistamines and Allergy Eye Drops)
  • Multi-symptom Cold Relief Medications

Please CONTINUE taking all of the following medications:

  • All Inhaled Asthma Medication
  • Oral Asthma Medications
  • Over-The-Counter Nasal and Oral Decongestants (Non-Antihistamine)
  • Proton Pump Inhibitors for Acid Reflux
  • Medication taken for non-allergy problems (e.g., high blood pressure, cholesterol, mood problems, thyroid issues, birth control, etc.) should be continued normally

Flu Season Looks to Be Off to an Early and Robust Start

Flu season is beginning a month early this year, with several states already reporting high levels of flu activity. Although we don’t know exactly what to expect as the flu returns this year, many public health authorities are bracing for an especially bad season.

As of October 14, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that influenza activity is currently low overall but rising in most of the country. The federal health agency notes that the South East and South Central United States are reporting the highest levels of flu activity, including Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington, DC.
