Saline Nasal Washing

To make your own nasal rinse solution mix:

  • 1/3 teaspoon non-iodized table salt
  • Pinch of baking soda
  • 8 ounces of distilled or otherwise sterilized water. Water should be "baby bottle warm" in temperature.

Directions for washing:

  • Wash your hands. Gently blow your nose if necessary before beginning nasal rinsing.
  • Pour above solution into 8 oz. (adult size) or 4 oz (pediatric size) nasal rinse bottle, or Neti Pot.
  • Stand in front of the sink and tilt your head slightly down as to look at your toes. You may also do this in the shower.
  • Keep your mouth open and do not hold your breath. Gently place the nasal rinse bottle slightly into your nose (no more than ¼ inch).
  • GENTLY squeeze the nasal rinse bottle. GENTLY wash one nostril then the other nostril. You can use 2 to 4 oz. in each nostril. Nasal washings will hurt if you squeeze the bottle too hard.
  • DO NOT swallow the solution.
  • After you have completed the nasal washing, GENTLY blow your nose. DO NOT pinch your nose completely to blow because this will put too much pressure on your eardrum. 8. Pour out any solution you did not use. Rinse the bottle with hot water. Let it air dry.

  • After rinsing, it is recommended to wait 30-60 minutes prior to placing any prescription nasal spray into the nose.

Nasal washing may be done multiple times a day but at least once daily as a general rule.

Do not rinse your nasal passages if they are completely blocked, if you have an ear infection or if your ears feel blocked. Stop nasal rinsing if you have any increased pressure or discomfort in your ears.

New Patient & Established Patient OAAC Guidelines Beginning May 11th

BEGINNING MAY 11th – Oklahoma Allergy & Asthma Clinic will revert back to ALL in person patient appointments.
All patients are required to wear their own cloth or medical masks into the clinics when arriving for appointments. Due to supply chain issues, OAAC will not be able to provide masks to patients. 

  • To limit your time in our office:
    Please pre-check in on Phreesia (our electronic patient system). Your notice will arrive via email and text one week prior to your appointment and;
    when you arrive for your appointment, please call 405-235-0040, using option 1, to pay your co-pay prior to entering the building.
    Call 405-235-0040, select “1” for the Business Office for questions or if you need to update any information to ensure you have the opportunity to pre-check in.
  • If you are a part of a high risk group you can request ahead of time to have your appointment via telemedicine.
  • In order to reduce the spread of COVID-19, OAAC is asking that adult patients do not bring guests and minor patients are only accompanied by one adult.
  • OAAC providers and co-workers are wearing their appropriate PPE. 
  • Following CDC guidelines, everyone will be prescreened as they enter our clinics.

COVID SYMPTOMS:

Older adults and people who have severe underlying medical conditions like heart or lung disease or diabetes seem to be at higher risk for developing more serious complications from COVID-19 illness.

People with COVID-19 have had a wide range of symptoms reported – ranging from mild symptoms to severe illness.

These symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
  • Chills
  • Repeated shaking with chills
  • Muscle pain
  • Headache
  • Sore throat
  • New loss of taste or smell

When to Seek Medical Attention

If you develop any of these emergency warning signs* for COVID-19 get medical attention immediately:

  • Trouble breathing
  • Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
  • New confusion or inability to arouse
  • Bluish lips or face

*This list is not all inclusive. Please consult your medical provider for any other symptoms that are severe or concerning to you.

Call 911 if you have a medical emergency: Notify the operator that you have, or think you might have, COVID-19. If possible, put on a cloth face covering before medical help arrives.
